My e-Portfolio is a culmination of artifacts derived from the work required in the 39-credit hour Master’s program at the University of South Florida's School of Information.  I have also provided artifacts from my job as a Library Associate that showcase both the technical skills and experiences required to work in a public library.

The artifacts presented depict my mastery of the learning outcomes determined by the School of Information for the completion of the Master of Library & Information Science degree in accordance with the American Library Association core compentencies. The learning outcomes are as follows:

  • Leadership & Innovation- students are innovative, ethical, problem-solvers able to lead and manage through communication, collaboration, and reflection.

  • Systems & Services- Students understand the systems and technologies that facilitate the management and use of information resources to serve the diverse needs of users.

  • Knowledge & Representation- Students are proficient in the theory and application of skills essential for knowledge representation in evolving technology environments, in any chosen area of specialization.

  • Theory & Praxis- Students have a critical grounding in theoretical perspectives that draw on research in LIS as well as other fields of knowledge, that inform their professional practices including research, organization, management, and access to information.

My personal narrative explores my understandings of the competencies of the MLIS program and illustrates how the courses I have taken, as well as my professional experiences, have contributed to my education. The learning outcomes are listed at the top of the e-Portfolio and include the appropriate artifacts to illustrate the goals of each competency.
